Privacy Notice
The short version. We collect an email address if you ask to be told when the oil lands, your contact details if you make a trade enquiry, and a phone number if you choose to give us one. Since 10 August 2026 we also count visits using Google Analytics, but only for people who agree to it when asked. We do not profile you, we do not sell your data, we run no advertising anywhere on this site, and we do not send marketing text messages. You can ask us to delete anything we hold about you at any time.
What changed on 10 August 2026
We added Google Analytics. That makes Google a recipient of some data about your visit, so this notice has been updated to name them, to state the legal basis, and to set out what happens when that data leaves the UK. Analytics only runs if you say yes: it is a separate question from the sign-up form, asked before anything loads, and you can say yes to one and no to the other. Everyone who answered the previous single cookie question has been asked again.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller for this website is Big K Products UK Ltd, the UK importer and distributor of Maritsa olive oil.
| Company | Big K Products UK Ltd |
| Registered address | Unit 20, Milmead Industrial Centre, Mill Mead Road, Tottenham Hale, London N17 9QU |
| Company number | 01549574, registered in England and Wales |
| VAT number | GB355163263 |
| Data protection contact | sales@bigk.co.uk |
Maritsa olive oil is produced and bottled by K. Maritsa Estates Ltd of Kampia, Cyprus. K. Maritsa Estates Ltd does not control this website and does not receive personal data collected through it.
2. What this notice covers
This notice covers personal data collected through this website only. If you buy Maritsa oil from a shop, a restaurant or another retailer, that seller handles your data under its own privacy notice, not this one.
It also covers prize draws we run through this site and through Klaviyo, the provider of our mailing list.
3. What we collect, why, and on what legal basis
| What | Why | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Launch notification signup Your email address. |
To email you when the oil is available to buy, and to send occasional updates about the estate and the product. | Consent (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you give by submitting the form and confirming through the email we then send you. Marketing email is also sent under reg. 22 of PECR. You can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email, or by emailing us. |
| Prize draw entry Your name and email address, and your phone number if you give one. |
To run the draw, select a winner, and contact you if you win. | Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) in promoting our own products. Joining the mailing list is a separate matter, done on the basis of your consent. You can unsubscribe straight away without affecting your entry. |
| Phone number Optional. Collected only if you choose to enter one. |
To contact you about an order, to answer a query you have raised, and to reach you if you win a prize draw. | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) where you have placed an order, and otherwise our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) in answering enquiries. We do not send marketing text messages. If that ever changes we will ask for your consent separately first, and a number you have already given us will not be used for marketing unless you agree. |
| Trade enquiry Name, company, email address, phone number if you give one, type of business, your message, and how you heard about us. |
To answer your enquiry and, if it goes further, to discuss supplying you. | Steps prior to entering a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) where you are asking to buy, and otherwise our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) in responding to people who contact us about our products. |
| Analytics Pages you viewed, roughly where in the world you are, your device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site. A randomly generated identifier is stored in your browser so repeat visits are counted as one person rather than several. |
To count visits and see which pages are actually read, so we know whether the site is doing its job. We do not use it to identify individuals, and we could not: it holds no name, email or phone number. | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), and reg. 6 of PECR for storing the identifier. Nothing is loaded or stored until you agree, and you can withdraw at any time through the link in the footer of every page. |
| Server logs Your IP address, the pages requested, timestamps, and your browser's user agent string. |
Generated automatically by our hosting provider to serve the site, keep it available, and defend it against abuse. | Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) in running a secure and functioning website. We do not use these logs to identify or profile individual visitors. |
We do not collect payment details on this site. We do not knowingly collect data from children, and this site is not directed at them. We do not make any automated decisions about you, and we do not carry out profiling.
4. What we do not do
Stated plainly, because a lot of privacy notices reserve rights the site never exercises:
- No advertising, anywhere. No Meta pixel, no Google Ads tag, no TikTok or LinkedIn tracking, and no remarketing. We have deliberately switched off Google Signals, ad personalisation and all three advertising signals on our Analytics property, so even the analytics data cannot be used to advertise to you or follow you to other sites.
- No profiling and no automated decisions. We do not build a picture of you and nothing about you is decided by a machine.
- No marketing text messages. Giving us a phone number does not sign you up to anything.
- No third-party content beyond two named services, Klaviyo for the sign-up form and Google for analytics, neither of which loads unless you agree to it. Our fonts, images and films are served from our own site. Details are in our Cookie Policy.
- We do not sell, rent or trade personal data, and we never will.
Two of these were removed from this list on 10 August 2026 because they stopped being true: it previously said there was no analytics, and that nothing here reported your visit to Google. Both were accurate when written and are not now, which is why they have gone rather than been softened.
5. Who else handles your data
We use the following processors. They act on our instructions and cannot use your data for their own purposes.
| Processor | What they do | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Netlify | Hosts this website and receives trade enquiries submitted through the trade form. Those submissions are stored in our Netlify account and emailed to us. | United States, with servers worldwide |
| Provides Google Analytics, which counts visits for us. Google receives your IP address when its code loads, and shortens it on collection so we never see the whole of it. Only ever loaded if you agree to analytics. | United States, with servers worldwide | |
| Klaviyo | Receives your email address when you use the launch notification form, holds the mailing list, and sends the confirmation and update emails. | United States and Ireland |
International transfers
All three processors are US-headquartered, so your data may be transferred outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, as incorporated in each provider's data processing agreement. Google is additionally certified under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. You can ask us for a copy of the safeguards that apply to any of them.
6. How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Launch notification email addresses | Until you unsubscribe, or after 24 months of no engagement with our emails, whichever comes first. |
| Trade enquiries | 24 months from your last contact with us, unless you become a customer, in which case your details are kept under our business records retention policy. |
| Phone numbers | 24 months from your last contact with us, unless you are a customer, in which case they are kept with your order records. |
| Prize draw entries | Six months after the draw closes. A winner's details are kept for six years as the record of the award. |
| Analytics | The records behind the reports are deleted by Google after 14 months. That is the retention period we have set on our property, and it is the longest Google offers on this plan. The reports we actually read are aggregated counts of visits by page and by day, which identify nobody. Withdrawing consent stops collection and removes the identifier from your browser. |
| Server logs | As long as our hosting provider retains them, which is a matter of days rather than months. |
7. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:
- ask what we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased;
- restrict how we use it, or object to our use of it where we rely on legitimate interests;
- receive data you gave us in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent. Withdrawing does not affect anything done before you withdrew.
Email sales@bigk.co.uk to exercise any of these. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
Two things on this site store something in your browser, and both are asked about first, separately, before anything loads: Google Analytics and our Klaviyo sign-up form. Reject is one click and sits beside Accept, nothing is pre-ticked, and ignoring the question is not agreement. We also store your answer itself, and whether you have already been shown the sign-up invitation, which needs no permission because both exist only to carry out a preference you expressed. Every item is listed by name, with what it does and how long it lasts, in our Cookie Policy. That list was compiled by reading a live browser, not by copying vendor documentation.
9. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at any time, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or on 0303 123 1113.
10. Changes to this notice
If we change what we collect or why, we will update this page and change the version number and date at the top. Where a change is material, and particularly where it introduces anything requiring your consent, we will ask you again rather than rely on an answer you gave to a different question.
